Step by step instructions to Improve Workplace Communication - Fairygodboss We have a correspondence issue in our work environments â€" some are considering it the discussion hole â€" and it's not just harming representatives: it's stinging business, too.According to Bravely, 70% of representatives abstain from starting troublesome discussions with their chief and associates. Fifty-three percent of representatives are deciding to overlook work environment issues instead of attempting to unravel them, and just 31% of administrators accept they address work environment showdowns well. The discussion hole doesn't simply affect worker efficiency and commitmentâ€"it hugy affects ability maintenance, and thusly, on an organization's primary concern, Sarah Sheehan, Founder Chief Customer Officer of Bravely, told Fairygodboss in an email. There are a few causes related with the discussion hole, including an absence of trust among representatives and the organization they work for. Just 65% of laborers state they trust the organization that utilizes them. What's more, when there is a supervisor representative trust hole, workers are less gainful, less drew in, and less inclined to remain at the organization. Actually, fifty-one of individuals are thinking about stopping their employments. What's more, as per Deloitte, organizations spend over $200 billion every year filling void positions.Because workers don't confide in their managers, they are hesitant to shout out when they're troubled or considering stopping because of requital â€" and this dread excessively influences ladies. As a lady who has gone through over 20 years in the work environment, I know firsthand what it feels like to be hesitant to make some noise at work, Sheehan told Fairygodboss. In the event that the #MeToo development gave us anything, it's that female representatives who talk straightforwardly and actually about the issues they're confronting are regularly rebuffed, or more regrettable, ignored.Ofcourse, the correspondence hole additionally costs workers cash. As per a n investigation by CPP Inc., representatives go through 2.8 hours every week managing issues in the working environment, which indicates $359 billion in paid worker hours (in view of a normal time-based compensation of $17.95).In request to close the discussion hole and avoid the cost it can take on the two businesses and workers, organizations must organize cultivating a working environment culture that permits workers to feel good talking about and working through troublesome circumstances in a beneficial manner. Workers who are urged to have legitimate discussions are generally speaking more joyful and more beneficial. For quite a long time, organizations have sustained societies of quiet by making individuals â€" particularly ladiesâ€"want to shout out would bring about inaction or discipline, Sheehan told Fairygodboss. At Bravely, we're effectively attempting to turn the tables, working with dynamic HR pioneers to urge representatives to stand up and shout outâ€"regardless of w hether they're detailing provocation or essentially voicing that they're battling with their presentation or development.

Promoting Work-Life Balance Improves Office Culture

Advancing Work-Life Balance Improves Office Culture Advancing Work-Life Balance Improves Office Culture Advancing work-life balance doesn't simply profit representatives - it enables your general office to culture. Did you realize that working more can really prompt diminished efficiency? At the point when your representatives are focused on, their physical and mental prosperity is bound to be contrarily influenced. They work less effectively, they phone in wiped out more frequently and their work quality endures. Yet, the negative cycle doesn't end there. Spirit can slip, as well, and quite soon, they may begin searching for better openings for work. Incorporating work-life balance into your office culture is probably the most ideal approaches to turn away representative burnout, keep up efficiency and hold your best individuals. Here are four hints for beginning: 1. Adaptability is vital Accomplishing a culture of work-life balance implies discovering approaches to enable your group to make a fair compromise among expert and individual requests. Think about contribution elective work game plans. Working from home, for example, is an extraordinary arrangement if a representative has an extreme drive or family responsibilities that contention with their work routine. Another arrangement is a consolidated week's worth of work, wherein a representative works a more drawn out every day plan, however for less days (10 hours out of every day for four days per week, for instance). This gives representatives a more drawn out stretch of personal time in which to loosen up and revive - making it more probable they'll come back to work with more vitality and eagerness. 2. Solid representatives are glad workers Nonmonetary impetuses that support a positive way of life can be a magnificent method to assist representatives with finding a work-life balance, which, thusly, looks good for your standards for dependability. These advantages don't need to burn up all available resources. Show others how its done As supervisor, you set the pace. Set a genuine model by protecting balance in your own life. Your endeavors to energize work-life balance won't be paid attention to if your representatives see you as a compulsive worker. Deal with your own time cautiously to abstain from remaining late or work at home, and when the workplace staff is assembling socially, make certain to participate. You Have More Friends Than You Think

You Have More Friends Than You Think You Have More Friends Than You Think Grow your systems administration hover with these tips on making friends.Today like never before, the net principles! Not the Internet. By no stretch of the imagination. I mean your own system. When giving courses and talks, I like to shock individuals with measurements that uncover why sitting behind your screen really obstructs a compelling quest for new employment. It's important somewhat, sure. Yet, not the best utilization of all your time.A concentrate by the Bureau of Labor Statistics quite a while back shows that an incredible 48 percent of occupation searchers made sure about work by means of referrals from companions or family members. That is about half! Also, the most I've at any point heard the Internet yielding is 10 percent. That is as yet nothing contrasted with the intensity of referral. So I ask you: Got referral? Most anybody is a companion Since you're brought into the world with your family members and can just extend that specialty through wedding or being embraced, the key is making more companions. Webster's Dictionary characterizes a companion as one who is joined to another by friendship or regard; a colleague; one who isn't threatening. That last piece of definition truly opens it up, isn't that right? In the event that every one of those not antagonistic to you are companions, you have a great deal of space to play.We can't let our cutting edge world lessen the everlasting requirement for high-contact profession improvement. People, it will never under any circumstance change. Regardless of whether innovation gives us telephone; email; videophone; or encompass sound, handshake-recreation gadgets, the subtleties and human energies that develop from up close and personal gatherings will consistently win as far as profession change. It essentially comes down to meeting individuals. Meeting them in an essential man ner is all the better. On the off chance that you can be noteworthy to the point that you remain head of brain, you'll stand out. What's more, on the off chance that you keep up that head of-mind status through consistent contact, you're home free. So, how about we talk about systems administration. What makes somebody ready to set aside the effort to meet with you? It's clearly not your requirement for an occupation. I've said it previously, and I'll sing this tune everlastingly: The most ideal approach to find a new line of work isn't to be searching for one. On the off chance that you need something that somebody probably won't have the option to give you, their common propensity will be to state no to a gathering. That is the reason your letter and resume gets rearranged off to HR which places you in the activity searcher vat.Make companions feel like they will succeed To battle the tank, you need to move toward individuals such that interests to their normal human instinct to be useful while expelling all opportunity that they won't succeed. On the off chance that you need an occupation, they probably won't succeed. Then again, in the event that you need data, direction or course, they will win and perhaps get their Good Samaritan inner self stroked at the equivalent time. The second greatest square to individuals being eager to meet you is time. We as a whole have such a tiny portion of it, and individuals maintaining their sources of income today are careful about time. Thus, you don't request a great deal. A spot will do you. Mentioning a five-to brief gathering, up close and personal, in their office to investigate a subject you're exploring is sufficient to jump on the radar. With compelling individual marking set up and by understanding the human instinct of educational meetings, you can establish an essential starting connection. Further, it very well may be raised to companion status through ordinary upkeep of that relationship. You never at any point need to state you're searching for an occupation since, when individuals can enable, they to do as such without your in any event, inquiring. In any case, you need to get before them.Even more basic than the exceptionally significant activity you need is the abundance of connections that can work from the referrals you'll get to other people who can aid your exploration. Once more, you can't play this as a game to find a new line of work. Individuals will smell through it. Be that as it may, on the off chance that you exhibit a real exploration exertion, you'll be given names of others to aid the effort.Look at it along these lines. On the off chance that you have a little music station in a valley, you'll have the option to communicate quite well in the valley. Notwithstanding, in the event that you place more radio wires in vital areas along the mountain edge, your sig n will reach across to the opposite side. You'll have a more extensive communicate and, consequently, have more melody demands coming your direction. That is the manner by which you need to build up your vocation clan - to get your melody out to a more extensive crowd.

How to pump up participation in wellness programs

How to pump up participation in wellness programs Youve launched a wellness program for your employees. You’ve attracted a set of early adopters, but your overall participation rates have plateaued. Does this sound familiar? Fear not, you’re not alone. According The State of Workplace Well-being survey, 52 percent of employer respondents agree that participation is the biggest challenge for wellness programs. Let’s be real. This situation is disheartening and frustrating. After all, you built the program to help your employees improve their well-being. Low participation stems from many factors including lack of time, a lack of relevance, a lack of priority, or a lack of simplicity. Here’s a few ways to pump up participation in your wellness program: 1. Don’t just focus on wellness Programs that only focus on health and fitness improvements are missing the mark. Instead build a program that focuses on employee well-being, which includes much more than just health. Make sure your program offers tools, resources, and activities that address areas of improvement that your employees really care about. This may include stress management, financial well-being, community building, or work collaboration. The best way to know what your employees want is to ask them. Use survey tools like TinyPulse to regularly ask your employees what they care about. 2. Give employees time Make your program an integral part of the workday. Nothing’s worse than adding one more thing employees have to do. Instead, wellness programs should be something employees want to do as part of their day at work. In a 2015 survey from Quantum Workplace, 49.8 percent of employees said they want time for healthy activities at work, but only 23.2 percent of employers offer it. This doesn’t mean you need to force people into the gym every day. Encourage walking meetings, stress-relief breaks, or the ability to adjust working schedules to accommodate an outside-of-work activity. 3. Use technology Many wellness programs today are tech-based to make it easy for employees to participate in activities and track progress along the way. Tech-based programs easily integrate wearable trackers, connect to other human resources programs, use game technology to keep people coming back, and build community with social elements. New interactive technology from Limeade even features videos to help employees learn about well-being and integrated quizzes to help them retain more information. 4. Reward employees positively Recognize and reward people for their participation â€" and do so in a positive way. People should be encouraged and celebrated for participating, not punished if they don’t participate. According to The State of Workplace Well-being survey, 68 percent of the employers said they use incentives for participation and 65 percent see them as the most important factor to a successful wellness program. And contrary to popular belief, these rewards don’t need to break the bank. They can be as simple as social recognition, a PTO day to recharge, or even a simple award to hang in a cubicle. 5. Make well-being a priority One of the best ways to demonstrate your commitment to your employees is through leadership support. Leadership involvement was cited as the most effective factor for a successful wellness program by 59 percent of employer respondents. Encourage employees to make well-being a priority by setting a great example. This can be as simple as having leaders share wellness goals, sponsoring wellness activities, or hosting lunch ‘n learn events. While there are many ways to boost employee participation in wellness programs, tackling some of these fundamentals will set your program and employees up for success. How to Talk in Their Lingo 5 Ways to Make People Remember Your Job Interview (Part 3) - milewalk

How to Talk in Their Lingo 5 Ways to Make People Remember Your Job Interview (Part 3) - milewalk How to Talk in Their Lingo: 5 Ways to Make People Remember Your Job Interview (Part 3) Most people don’t realize when they’re job interviewing that the interviewer’s memory has a strong influence in whether the job candidate ultimately gets hired. Why? Because hiring decisions simply don’t happen in real time. Furthermore, in today’s corporate world, interviewers are untrained (it’s not their “day job”), overworked, and distracted, and they’ve most likely interviewed several candidates for the same position. You need to not only set yourself apart, but also make them remember you in a positive light. Say it so they get it. Say it so they remember it. Say it so they want it. That phrase is simple. Remembering those eighteen words, which ought to be easy enough because most of them are the same, at a minimum provides you with a successful formula for the interview. Using the five following principles to execute that formula will make you memorable. Keep It Short and Simple. Superfluous information hinders their ability to remember. Capture and Keep Their Attention. They can’t remember you if they’re not listening. Talk in Their Lingo. Speak in a language they understand. Make Them Believe You. Use details to make yourself believable. Get Them to Care. Highlight the benefit to the individual in addition to the company. This is the third in a five part series that covers each of these principles. If you simply can’t wait for the remaining pieces, you can review the material in much more detail in the Storytelling Chapter of  Interview Intervention: Communication That Gets You Hired. I provide a complimentary eBook to anyone who signs up for the email distribution list on the front page of the  milewalk  website! Talk in Their Lingo.  Pick your expression. Put it in their terms. Target your audience. Speak in their language. You get the picture. Realize that interviewers are busy, and many have likely been placed in front of you out of obligation. They are untrained and might be assessing you strictly for cultural fit or something “softer” than your job-specific capabilities. It might be because they are unable to comprehend what you’re capable of, or they might simply be breaking apart the process to evaluate you from many sides. Regardless of the reason, you need to adjust your responses so they understand and remember them. In my opinion, this is one of the most difficult things for people to do when they’re communicating. Do you know why? Because as we evolve through life, we forget what it’s like not to know what we know. Here’s a little story for you. I have a battery of exercise trainers and medical professionals that keep me tuned for life and the kamikaze sporting events I love. During our training sessions, my trainer has a habit of saying things to me like, “Your gluteus maximus isn’t engaging quickly enough, which puts more pressure on your gastrocnemius and soleus muscles to keep the lower part of your leg and ankle stable while your foot pronates. That’s why your posterior tibial tendon is swollen and your navicular bone is dropping.” I’m thinking, “Huh?” You can imagine I’d like to throw my high school biology book at her when she says something like this to me. Obviously, that’s not a friendly response, so typically I simply laugh because she is doing what most peopl e do when they communicate to someone elseâ€"anyone elseâ€"communicate as if your audience was you. As you prepare for your interviews, you need to think about what it is like to be the interviewer. Keep in mind, a professional title is not always a dead giveaway of what a person knows or has experienced, but it can serve as a starting point. (I also recommend doing thorough reconnaissance on the interviewer if you are aware of her name. Use sites such as LinkedIn to gather a more complete profile of what she does and where she’s worked.) Regardless of her title, you can use a few techniques to determine what language she actually speaks. First, you can simply ask her the level of information that would be appropriate. You can also pay close attention to the depth and content of her questions. Questions from a human resources official related to what you’re looking for in your next role can be answered at one level. Questions from a technologist who wants to understand specifically how you would design software might be answered at another. If the verbal cues are missing, you c an always look for squinted faces, dropped eyebrows, or lack of eye contact as a cue that the interviewer doesn’t understand you. Ultimately, if you can speak in a manner that allows the interviewer to literally visualize what you’re describing, you’ve mastered speaking at the appropriate level. This means you have found the common denominator around which you can both communicate. It likely means you are using specific nomenclature that helps her comprehend how you felt, what you built, and so forth.

Mailing occasion cards to your system? What might occur on the off chance that you sent an e-card this year or held on to send a New Year's card? Same goes for individual undertakings: If you're lacking in time, skirt the heating and bring locally acquired pie or even better, eggnog, to your office hoedown. Pay for blessing wrapping instead of doing it on your own.If you're overpowered by all you need to do, start by considering your most tedious occasion errands and make them simpler or (heave) stay away from them through and through. Social Networks Do They Help or Hurt Your Career

Informal communities Do They Help or Hurt Your Career I was flipping through Deloittes 2010 Ethics and Workplace Survey Trust in the Workplace, and went over this slide. It asks: Does interpersonal interaction help to fabricate trust in the workplace? Social systems are devices and alone, they dont do anything. They are a correspondence vehicle. If utilized successfully to pass on a straightforward message of trust, at that point the appropriate response may be yes. In my sentiment, this is a stupid question. However, youll notice that representatives and administrators have a contrasting answers. The data that disillusions me more than anything else is the way that 32% of representatives dont utilize interpersonal organizations since they are apprehensive it will harmed their career. Having a functioning nearness on LinkedIn is going to contrarily affect your career? Really? Really???!!!!! Creating associations with potential clients Lead age Teaming up with others Sharing prescribed procedures Examining new innovation and thoughts Are these the things that will harm your career? When utilized as a device for systems administration and associating, these are only a portion of the numerous results of utilizing LinkedIn. The last slide shows that 40% of the organizations studied don't permit their representatives to utilize informal organizations from the workplace. Now what was this study about again? It was surveying trust in the workplace. What message does this send to the workers then? No interpersonal organization utilization since we dont trust you to deal with your time, to be mindful, to be fitting, to not share organization mysteries? You should close all messages and mood killer the telephones while youre at it. I have known about organizations that permit the utilization of informal communities however endorse precisely what must be said on worker profiles. Hmmm, setting rules versus canned profiles? Wheres the trust? Do you know individuals who are not utilizing LinkedIn on the grounds that they are apprehensive it will harmed their vocation? Do you know businesses who have prohibited the utilization of LinkedIn among their workers? I couldn't imagine anything better than to find out about this.

So how would you grasp care, in the least difficult way that could be available? It begins with a mindfulness propensity. Start to see your general surroundings. Stir your faculties to your general surroundings. Our cerebrums are on auto-pilot more often than not. Assume responsibility for your deduction propensities by turning off the auto-pilot. Hinder your reasoning. Become mindful of your musings. Become OK with the quiet and tranquility. Most specialists suggest a conventional act of care for around 15 minutes consistently. In any case, that will be hard for a meandering brain. Preparing your psyche to channel the commotion in your mind to watch is intense. Normally, it is difficult to free your psyche from all idea. Any individual who has attempted to ruminate realizes how hard it is the point at which the brain continues meandering into musings, from minor to extraordinary. Consideration is a valuable item, yet we part with it most uninhibitedly. Furthermore, battle to discover it when we need it most. What you could do is start moderate. Create each propensity in turn. There are many every day careful propensities you can embrace. You can grasp journaling, or practice appreciation every day. Begin seeing the earth (simply pay heed to what's happening). Take time(a moment or two) to inhale profoundly; Feel the surge of new, oxygenated blood fill you with restored life. Try not to surge it. You can utilize the 4â€"7â€"8 breathing strategy; Take in for four seconds. Hold your breath for seven seconds. Breathe out for eight seconds. Rehash. It's sufficiently basic to keep your brain busy with tallying and sufficiently basic to rehearse care. Decrease the commotion by killing your devices for two or three hours. You will become acclimated to it sooner or later. I have killed all notices on my life, and I have never returned. Listen more as opposed to talking. Offer your full focus in a discussion. Understand more. Perusing can trigger a portion of indistinguishable impacts from reflection: an easing back of considerations and quieting of the brain. Pat thoughtfulness regarding your gut. Begin tuning in and confiding in your instinct. Once more, you don't need to begin these propensities simultaneously. You can begin with only one and measure the outcomes consistently. After some time and with training, you will learn new pathways to better propensities for a quiet psyche. Care is an opportunity to wake up from unfortunate mental propensities and practices that can be counterproductive. Whenever you end up harping on something that is pushing or discouraging you, stop and relax. Consider your reasoning. And afterward manage your thoughtfulness regarding the present. How to Really Source Talented Applicants

How to Really Source Talented Applicants It can be tough attracting quality applicants. When you find skilled professionals you need to move decisively. Business is changing all the time and HR professionals need to be horizon-scanning and considering the talent pipeline needed to negotiate current challenges and address disruptive technologies. The effective organisation needs to recruit not simply on technical skills but for learning agility and leadership potential. When finding good candidates is hard the first thing an organisation needs to address is the issue of developing talent so as to make internal appointments where possible. Developing the talent pool potential by committing to providing development opportunities is imperative for innovation and productivity; one of the key drivers for employee engagement is the provision of opportunities for development so improving the employability of an employee is an all-round win. Advocacy at work Recruitment via agency or advertising is expensive so a primary source should be via recommendation. It’s an indication of the health of your corporate culture when existing employees are happy to advocate on behalf of the organisation. If your own people recommend a candidate it is a highly efficient recruitment method. When it comes to hiring decisions that result from an employee referral, those new hires have longer tenures and higher job performance than those hired via any other channel. Recruiting via those you already employ is often faster than and usually yields better quality candidates than using an advert or online job board. Think about referral bonuses for successful hires via advocacy! Another line of sourcing is to look at competitors. The smart organisation is keenly aware of what their competitors do and who they hire. Use social media to track their recruitment, their talent, and their star players and be alert to the possibility that good candidates may become available. Poaching is a delicate issue and HR need to be alive to the pitfalls of breaching any non-compete agreement. Social sourcing Exploit the possibilities of social media sourcing via LinkedIn and other platforms. Good candidates use social media to find and research jobs. According to Pew research on social media users’ job-seeking habits: More than one-third use social media to look for or research jobs; one in five applied for a job they first found out about on social media; 13% say information they posted on their social profiles helped them get a job. Using social media is inexpensive and provide a good opportunity to boost your employment brand and build a candidate pool. This is also an excellent route to reach out to a diverse range of candidates; roles advertised via social media have greater reach and improve your visibility in the marketplace. Pay attention to your employment brand as social media provides the tools to promote organisational culture and showcase current employees. Don’t ignore the potential of networking events, conferences and conventions and professional associations. Where the recruitment team and engaged employees identify talent via networking the organisation is able to throw the net wider and reach out to passive candidates who are probably not actively seeking a move. Connect with candidates In essence, the starting point for recruitment is to make connections with high potential candidates and influencers who may be able to recommend star performers. Develop relationships with potential recruits before you need them, cultivate a talent pool, and tap into the networks of your staff, board, stakeholders and professional network. Finally, make the corporate website a source of information about the organisation, your work, vacancies and workplace culture that is attractive to potential employees. Showcase your work environment and team culture and make it easy for interested candidates to apply. Reply to all applicants and nurture high-potential prospects even if there is no immediate opening. Don’t think the best candidates are beating a path to your door, good people are able to make choices about where and when they work, so be sure you offer an attractive employment proposition with personal and professional development as a key part of your offer.

Then, well look at two example answers after that. Here are the steps to follow for the best answer1. Explain what youre looking forHiring managers want to see that youve put effort into thinking about your career, your job search, and what your priorities are in the next position you take.Thats the type of person they want to hire.So the worst thing you can do when they ask why you want this position is to say youre not sure.If you say you havent thought about what you want, or that you dont know anything about their position, you migh t have already cost yourself the job!Theyre just NOT going to hire you if you cant explain why youre job hunting and what youd like to do in your next position. So, when they ask why do you want this job?, the first thing you need to be able to do is name something youre looking for in your job search overall. This is a key step in any job search and if you havent done this, its probably a big reason you cant find a job.Theres no right answer for whatyoure targeting. Its your job search and your life/career. But be ready to namesomething. You could say youre looking for career advancement or a higher level role and thats why youre job hunting. You could say you want more leadership, more responsibility, more chance to work in a certain area or build a certain skill. You could say you want more exposure to any number of things (a technology, a certain industry, a different type of work environment like a small start-up, etc.)Heres an example of how your answer to why you want their job might begin:I really love interacting with customers and my last job took me a bit away from that. Im looking to find a role that will let me get back to the direct customer interaction that I enjoy so much. This is a good start to an answer because youre showing the hiring manager right away that youre targeting something specific the chance to work directly with customers.(Dont worry if this still seems difficult. Youll get two full sample answers later in the article, so keep reading.)For this first step, just make sure that whatever you say is something this next job offers! Dont say you want to work directly with customers if this job isnt going to let you do that. Thats why youll need to do a bit of research to give a great answer. More info on that in the next step2. Show them that you know what their job involvesOnce youve given the hiring manager an idea of what you are targeting in your job hunt, its time to talk a bit about why their job interests youShow the hiring manag er that you put some effort into researchingas much info as possible about the position. This might be as simple as reading the job description. Other times you might need to research the companys website or LinkedIn page to find info about the area youre targeting in your job hunt.Heres what your answer might look like after a bit of research:I love interacting with customers and my last job took me a bit away from that. Im looking to find a role that will let me get back to the direct customer interaction that I enjoy so much. I took a look at the job description before coming in and it seems like this role involves a lot of customer-facing work. Now were 2/3 of the way through your answer. Weve shown the hiring manager that you know what you want in your next job, and youre showing them youve researched their job and seen things you like!It might sound simple, but youll stand out from many other job seekers just by being able to clearly show you understand the job and have reasons youre excited to do the work! Now lets go on to the third and final step for answering this question.3. Show them how youll help them if they hire you for this jobSo far youve told the hiring manager what you want in your next job.And after that, you talked about what you saw in their specific position that seems to fit what youre looking for!So now they know what you want, and why their job is exciting to you. Those are great things to demonstrate, and youve already gone a long way toward making them happy with your interview answer.Theres a final step now that will help set you apart thoughCompanies hire based on their needs, not yours. So to really give a strong answer, conclude by putting the focus on their needs.Heres howAfter you point out the things that excited you about their job, talk about how your strengths would play into what they need.If something is mentioned a lot in the job description, its not just a career opportunity they can provide you its something they need h elp with! They have to find somebody willing and excited to do this work. You can show them that youre that person who can come in and solve their problems and help them succeed. Now lets look at some word-for-word example answers so you can make sure your answer is following the 3 key steps we looked at aboveWhy Do You Want This Job? Best Sample AnswersSample answer #1 for why you want this job:I enjoy interacting with customers and my last job took me a bit away from that. Im looking to find a role that will let me get back to the direct customer interaction that I enjoy so much. I took a look at the job description before coming in and it seems like this role involves a lot of customer-facing work. I was excited because thats a strength of mine and I think that not only would this position fit what Im targeting, but it would also allow me to come in and have an immediate impact and make the best use of my skills. This sample answer above is doing everything in the 3 key steps we loo ked at earlier. Youre showing the employer that you know what you want. Youre showing the employer you know what their job involves. And youre talking about how you can help them if they hire you!If you structure your answer like this, youll have a great response when they ask why you want their job.Lets look at one more example answer now.Sample answer #2 for why you want this job:“I think my biggest priority right now in my job search is to continue building my business development skills. I took on more and more of that in my last role as a Recruiter and enjoyed it a lot. I reviewed the job description and saw this is mentioned a lot, so I thought the position seems like not only a good fit for what I want, but a role where my skillset would be well-used and needed. So thats why I want this job.”You now know how to give the best answer possible for Why do you want this job?By combining the 3 pieces we talked about, youll have a great answer that clearly explains why you want their job or why you chose to apply for their position. And better yet youll stand out from other job seekers answering this question because youre also showing the interviewer exactly how your skills and experience will help THEM if they hire you (thats step 3 from the steps above).

OverTagging Crime and Punishment - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

OverTagging Crime and Punishment - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Tagging is an essential part of a solid social media marketing strategy. It helps you interact with both your current audience and those you want to woo into your fold. However, there have been enough cases of overtagging that Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all have their own brands of justice when it comes to dealing with those they perceive to be spammers. Overdoing It We’ve all seen them. Maybe we’ve even connected with them at some point. They’re the companies and individuals that tweet and post constantly, including at least 10 different tags for each one they make. Their original message is a tiny speck of black text lost within a swirl of blue hashtags and at-signs. If you’ve found a real winner, there will even be a string of unintelligible emojis. This is overtagging. Being recognized by a company is wonderful, that’s why tagging became popular. Being over recognized is a frustration akin to receiving continual spam in the mail from a company you have no intention of visiting. It’s the laundry list of poorly worded emails that clutter up your spam folder. While people are not afraid to tell off these social media spammers, the spammers didn’t have to stop until the social media sites began enacting penalties for the abuse of their connectivity system. Facebook Ironically, Facebook, the social media site that is now notorious for being nothing but advertisements hidden as posts or “interesting” articles has the most well-known restrictions of all social media sites. Tagging on Facebook began as a different idea altogether. In this realm of blue and white, tagging referred to noting individuals that appeared in different photos. It wasn’t until 2013, six years after Twitter created the hashtag, that hashtag technology was finally integrated, transforming the idea of tagging in this arena forever. While great for allying your business posts with your own marketing tags and current trending tags, too much of a good thing is detrimental. In fact, posting three or more decreases total interactions severely. However, this isn’t the worst part. With too many, people will see your posts as spammy or too obviously an advertisement. When this happens, they’ll begin marking your posts as such, flagging the attention of Facebook. With enough malice against you, the site may very well put you on a suspension period or deactivate your account altogether. The worst and most damaging to your personal brand is tagging people in pictures who are not even in the picture.   Now, I don’t mean tagging someone to see a funny meme, interesting post, event or even product.   I’m talking about those overzealous people who tag lots of people on one photo so that they’ll see the flyer, picture, or event.   It’s that person who is “too excited” about their latest venture that over tags to the point that they not only damage their reputation they also damage their relationships. Twitter Even with a strict character limit, Twitter is not free of those that abuse tags. In this sphere of social media, though, the abuse comes more from a comment, an at-sign and a link to some website that has absolutely nothing to do with the original post. Typically, these tweets will come from users that have models as their user images, but companies are not always above such a tactic. Things like posting too much and too often as well as posting repeatedly to trends in order to get attention are all frowned upon. To counter this, Twitter invites users to report both profiles and specific tweets for overtagging. Even so, the most popular tool at a user’s hand is to block the company outright. This means that they will no longer be able to see anything you post and vice versa. The implications of this are catastrophic since tagging allows you to be seen by everyone that follows that person. Being blocked by an individual is not the loss of one customer, it’s the loss of upwards of tens of thousands. Instagram Instagram is basically a free-for-all. There is a limit of 2200 characters for the comment section and a severe restriction of hashtags, limiting users to a mere 30 for each post. This makes Instagram even more notorious in terms of overtagging. Companies are prone to falling for the method of turning every other word into a tag, viewing it as a convenient way to connect with every single tag that is even remotely related to the brand. Instagram the company marks spam in virtually the same way as the other social media sites. By noting too many tags in a single post, too many posts made in a small time frame and taking into account user reports of spam accounts, they do their best to police the aptly named Instaspam. Like Twitter, if your account is found guilty and banned or suspended, you lose more than just the attention of one person, potentially costing your company and your reputation.
